Lake Charles, LA –

A short time ago, at approximately 1:00 p.m. CPSO deputies were out in the area of the 100 block of Vine Street in Sulphur with a suspicious vehicle.

When deputies attempted to speak with the driver, Clausy Bernard, 36, he rolled up his window, with the deputies arm inside and attempted to drive off. Deputies shot at the suspects’s car window, in order to free the deputies arm.

Bernard was able to drive off in his white Toyota Camry with expired paper tags. Deputies are currently attempting to locate him.  It was also learned Bernard is wanted on out of state warrants.

It is not known at this time if anyone inside the vehicle was shot. At this time CPSO deputies and detectives are currently continuing the investigation. If it is discovered someone inside the car was injured by gunfire, Sheriff Tony Mancuso will request the Louisiana State Police take over the investigation.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages. There is no further information to release at this time.  If anyone knows his whereabouts they are asked to call CPSO at 491-3715.
