The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign with grant funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. The campaign was created in an effort to save lives through awareness of increased seat belt use. This campaign which starts Saturday, November 19 and ends Saturday, November 26, includes the Thanksgiving holiday. During this campaign the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will have increased deputies on the road, aimed at targeting people not wearing their seatbelt.
According to research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2020 over half of passengers who died in crashes were unrestrained. “Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash,” stated Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso.
