Lake Charles –
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Office has been award nearly $85,000 in grant funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to conduct additional traffic safety enforcement activities throughout the year to reduce traffic crashes and the resulting serious injuries and fatalities. The grant will be used to place off duty deputies on the roads to enforce traffic laws that pertain to seatbelts, drinking and driving, underage drinking and driving, and speeding. The Sheriff’s Office will utilize checkpoints as wells as saturation patrol to enforce these laws. “We are very pleased to continue to receive this grant over the years, which allows us to have more patrol deputies on the road enforcing traffic laws that will help to keep our citizens safe,” says Sheriff Tony Mancuso. “Research shows that high-visibility enforcement can reduce fatalities by as much as 20 percent. We will be looking for, and arresting or ticketing, those violators that make it dangerous for the law-abiding drivers.”
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will participate in several special nationwide enforcement campaigns such as “Click It or Ticket”, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”, and “Buckle Up In Your Truck.” These special enforcement campaigns will run through September 30, 2022.
