CPSO INVESTIGATING TRAFFIC FATALITY IN MOSS BLUFF

Lake Charles, LA –

Yesterday morning, at approximately 6:00 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched near the intersection of North Perkins Ferry Road and Highway 171 in Moss Bluff in reference to a single vehicle crash, with an SUV on fire.

The preliminary investigation revealed the SUV was traveling on N. Perkins Ferry Road when it went off the roadway, for unknown reasons, in a curve.  The driver, Alicia D. Smith, 40, Lake Charles, was ejected from the SUV.  It is believed the vehicle then caught fire due to damages it sustained during the crash.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.  She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.  As mandated by state law, toxicology testing will be performed.

CPSO Sr. Cpls. Cameron Hicks and Cody Fontenot are the lead investigators on this crash.
