CPSO ARRESTS MAN FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER

Lake Charles –

On October 28 Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Unit detectives arrested convicted sex offender Sonny L. Carey, 50, Winnfield, LA, after an investigation revealed he failed to comply with his sex offender registration requirements.

During the investigation detectives learned Carey, who is registered in Winnfield, LA, was staying at a residence on Roxton Street in Sulphur.  Carey failed to notify the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office along with CPSO that he had been staying in Sulphur, making him in violation of his sex offender registration requirements.  He was located at the residence and arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with failure to register as a sex offender.  Judge Clayton Davis set his bond at $10,000.

Carey was convicted of oral sexual battery in 2007 in Calcasieu Parish.

CPSO Detective Allison Toups is the lead investigator on this case.
