CPSO ARRESTS WOMAN FOR CRUELTY TO JUVENILE

Lake Charles, LA –

On April 9 at approximately 6:30 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a convenience store in Vinton in reference to an 11 year old child being left alone at the store.

When deputies arrived they observed the child to have red marks and bruising on his face.  Deputies learned the mother, Heather M. Johnson, 39, Westlake, had struck the child several times, busting his nose, and left him at the store.

A short time later deputies made contact with Johnson at her home.  When detectives spoke with her she stated she became angry with the child.  She confirmed to deputies she struck him several times and left him at the store.  She was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.  During booking deputies located suspected methamphetamine concealed on her person.  Johnson is charged with cruelty to a juvenile; possession of CDS II; and introduction of contraband into a penal facility.  Judge Ron Ware set her bond at $34,000.

CPSO Sr. Cpl. Thomas Poore is the arresting deputy and CPSO Detective Shelley Trahan is the lead investigator on this case.
