CPSO INVESTIGATES PEDESTRIAN FATALITY IN TOPSY

Lake Charles –

Early this morning at approximately 5:30 the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call near the intersection of Topsy Road and Welcome Road in Topsy in reference to a man being hit by a car.

The initial investigation revealed Ryan G. Little, 33, Topsy, was walking in Jeff Davis Parish close to the Calcasieu Parish Line when an elderly man driving a pickup truck gave him a ride.  As they were driving, Little began acting erratically and started hitting the driver, at which time he pulled over his truck and fled in an attempt to escape Little and get help.  According to witnesses on the scene, a few minutes later they saw Little walking westbound on Topsy Road, in Calcasieu Parish, acting erratically and attempting to stop passing vehicles.  Little continued walking westbound on Topsy Road, in the middle of the westbound lane of travel, at which time a driver of a pickup truck, also traveling westbound, struck him.  Little was pronounced dead at the scene.

In accordance with Louisiana state law, standard toxicology testing will be performed on both the driver and the pedestrian.  Impairment of the driver is not suspected.

The fatality is still under investigation.  The elderly man was transported to the hospital.

CPSO Sgt. Bryan Guth is the lead investigator on this case.
