CPSO DEPUTY INVOLVED IN SHOOTING

Lake Charles –

Last night at approximately 9:40 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at a residence on Mosswood Road in Sulphur in reference to a man with a gun to his head threatening suicide.

Upon arrival deputies located the man, identified as Austin L. Rackley, 19, Sulphur, outside holding a gun in his hand and arguing with a family member. Deputies made contact with Rackley and gave loud verbal commands for him to drop the gun. Rackley turned toward deputies with the gun raised towards them causing deputies to fire, striking Rackley in the neck. Deputies immediately administered first aid and life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived on scene.

Rackley was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Lafayette, where his condition is listed as stable. The incident is still under investigation with a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm on a peace officer likely.

CPSO Deputy Casey Lafargue is the lead investigator on this case.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso has requested the Louisiana State Police conduct an investigation into the officer-involved shooting incident.
