CPSO INVESTIGATES MOTORCYCLE FATALITY

 Lake Charles –

Yesterday evening at approximately 6:40 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a traffic accident near the intersection of East Burton Street and Park Lane in Sulphur.  The investigation revealed the driver of a motorcycle was traveling west on East Burton Street when for unknown reasons the motorcycle traveled off the roadway, into a ditch and striking a driveway.  Both the driver and the passenger, Heather Gary, 27, Sulphur were ejected from the motorcycle.  The driver was air lifted to a hospital in Lafayette with what is believed to be serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.  Gary was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.   Both the driver and Gary appeared to have been wearing helmets because they were located near them.  It is not known if the helmets came off during impact or if the helmets were taken off after the accident.

The investigation is still continuing and as mandated by state law, a toxicology report was conducted on the driver and the results are pending.

Sgt. Terry Faulk is the lead investigator on this case.
