CPSO INVESTIGATES HOMICIDE IN CARLYSS

 Lake Charles –

 

Today, Saturday, May 28 at around 12:30 p.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call in regard to a medical emergency at 3238 Rocky Lane in Carlyss. When deputies arrived, they observed Andy Phipps, 89, unconscious and not breathing. Deputies also observed Joseph Stutes, 42, Phipps’ grandson, attempting to remove jewelry from Phipps as he lay unconscious. CPR was begun on Phipps, then he was immediately taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

A witness informed deputies that Phipps and Stutes were having a physical altercation involving a baseball bat when Phipps fell down unresponsive.

 

Stutes has been brought in for questioning by detectives.
