CPSO INVESTIGATES SERIOUS INJURY CRASH

Lake Charles –

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:50 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call near the intersection of E. Prien Lake Road and Hwy 397 in Lake Charles of an occupant from a vehicle being hit by another vehicle.

The investigation revealed the driver of a car was traveling east on E. Prien Lake Road when he suddenly stopped the vehicle, in the lane of travel, for an unknown reason. A truck, which was also traveling east, was behind the car and swerved into the opposite lane of travel to avoid a collision. Simultaneously as the truck swerved the passenger in the car exited the vehicle into the opposite lane of travel and was struck.

In accordance with Louisiana state law, standard toxicology testing will be performed on both drivers, but impairment is not suspected at this time.

The occupant was airlifted to a hospital in Lafayette and is listed in critical condition.

CPSO Sr. Cpl. Ty Istre is the lead investigator on this case.
