CPSO RELEASES RESULTS OF DWI AND SEATBELT CHECKPOINT IN MOSS BLUFF

On Thursday, January 28, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a DWI and seatbelt checkpoint in the 1300 block of North Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, as well as, people who are not wearing their seatbelt.

 

Four hundred seventy (470) vehicles were checked; one (1) field sobriety test was administered; and one (1) citation was issued for expired motor vehicle inspection sticker.

 

Perry G. Jackson, 63, MO, was issued a summons for DWI 2nd; and open container.

 

While driving through the checkpoint Chad O. Thornton, 43, 2329 Augustine St., Sulphur, was stopped in reference to his expired MVI sticker. While Thornton was attempting to show deputies his driver’s license, deputies observed a small black case inside his truck. When deputies asked Thornton about the case he told deputies it contained a marijuana pipe. Two handguns as well as a container of marijuana were also located in the truck. Thornton was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with expired motor vehicle inspection sticker; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana 1st offense; and possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS. He was released on $8,250 bond set by Judge Robert Wyatt.

 

Participating in the checkpoint were Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lake Charles City Police.
