Lake Charles –
Between the late night hours on October 28 and the morning of October 29, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of vehicle burglaries in the south Lake Charles area where several items were reported stolen, including several firearms. During the early morning hours of October 29, a witness was able to give a description of a car that they believed may be responsible for a vehicle burglary in their neighborhood in south Lake Charles. CPSO detectives put a BOLO (“be on the lookout”) for the car and later the same day it was located on Ryan Street in Lake Charles. When deputies tried to pull the car over for an investigative stop the suspect fled, which led to a pursuit through south Lake Charles. During the pursuit the deputies observed the driver throw an object, which appeared to be a handgun, out of the window. Deputies were able to locate the handgun that was thrown from the car and it was learned that it had been reported stolen during the string of vehicle burglaries in south Lake Charles. The vehicle eventually stopped near the intersection of Tom Hebert Road and Friesen Road and the driver, later identified as Jakhoryn Duhon, 18, 2509 Red Davis McCollister Rd., Lake Charles, and passenger, later identified as Colen Cole, 21, 2419 Dalton St., Elton, were taken in to custody and transferred to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
Once at the Sheriff’s Office CPSO Vehicle Crimes Investigative Unit (VCIU) detectives questioned Duhon and Cole, both confirmed they participated in the burglaries in south Lake Charles on October 28 and 29. During further investigation detectives learned Raymond Pate, 18, 1912 Legion St., Lake Charles, was also responsible along with Duhon and Cole for the vehicle burglaries. Later the same day, when detectives spoke with Pate he confirmed he was with Duhon and Cole and was responsible for several vehicle burglaries in the south Lake Charles area on October 28 and 29. Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for Pate’s residence and located numerous stolen items from the vehicle burglaries on the 28 and 29, as well as items from previously reported burglaries. Detectives also obtained a search warrant for Duhon’s home but did not locate anything.
On October 29 Duhon, Cole and Pate were all arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Cole and Pate are charged with simple burglary; and theft of a firearm. Judge Sharon Wilson set Cole’s bond at $10,000 and Pate’s at $6,000. Duhon is charged with illegal possession of stolen things; aggravated flight from an officer; obstruction of justice; and illegal possession of stolen firearms. Judge Sharon Wilson set his bond at $12,500.
Duhon, Cole and Pate are believed to be responsible for several other vehicle burglaries over the last 3 weeks. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests and charges are possible.
CPSO VCIU Detective Kardel Guidry is the lead investigator on this case.
