On Sunday, September 6 at approximately 11:30 a.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a shooting at 386 Scheufens Rd. in Iowa. Once they arrived, Randall R. Austin, 64, advised deputies he and his roommate, Sidney “Jody” Joseph Moore, Jr., 40, were arguing and Austin retrieved a shotgun from his bedroom. According to Austin, Moore began fighting him for the shotgun and the shotgun discharged. Moore died as a result of the shotgun wound he sustained.
Austin was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on Sunday, September 6. He has been charged with manslaughter.
Judge Robert Wyatt set his bond at $250,000.
