Lake Charles, LA –

Saturday, July 4 at approximately 7:30 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to an apparent drowning at Niblett's Bluff Park which is located between Toomey and Starks, LA.

The investigation revealed Shannon Godfrey, 28, DeRidder, was at the park with family members for a 4th of July celebration. During a game of kickball, the ball went in the water   and Godfrey jumped into to retrieve it. Witnesses told deputies he went under and never resurfaced.

The CPSO Marine Division arrived on the scene and began diving and running the sonar equipment in an effort to locate Godfrey. Divers were in the water until midnight and were unable to locate him. The search is continuing today.
