CPSO Arrests Woman For Fradulent Income Tax Check

On March 17, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were dispatched to a local business in reference to a women trying to cash a possible fraudulent check.  Upon arrival detectives learned a women, later identified as Nicol Sterner, 43, Pascagoula, MS., was trying to cash a fraudulent income tax check. 


During the investigation detectives verified through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that the check was a fraudulent income tax refund check.   


Sterner was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with monetary instrument abuse and forgery. 


Judge Ronald Ware set her bond at $50,000.   


CPSO Detective David Thompson is the lead investigator on this case.
