CPSO ARRESTS MAN FOR 2nd DEGREE MURDER

Lake Charles, LA –

 

Last night at approximately 10:30 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on Dobbertine Road in Lake Charles in reference to a shooting.

           

When deputies arrived they located the victim, Derek J. Ogea, 40, Lake Charles, with an apparent gunshot wound to his arm and chest.  Ogea was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries earlier today.

 

During the initial investigation detectives learned an acquaintance of the victim, Jeremy E. Mulkey, 29, 335 Dobbertine Road, Lake Charles, was possibly responsible for the shooting.  Detectives located Mulkey, at which time he was transported to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for questioning.  During questioning he confirmed to detectives he shot Ogea after having a dispute with him. 

 

He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and is being charged with 2nd degree murder; obstruction of justice; and illegal use of a dangerous weapon  Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $875,000.
