CPSO ARRESTS MAN FOR THEFT

Lake Charles, LA –

On October 16 Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Louisiana Avenue in Lake Charles in reference to a theft.  When deputies arrived they spoke with the complainant who stated he believed his neighbor, Phillip D. Spell, 61, 1010 Azalea Street, Lake Charles, had been stealing from him.

When detectives spoke with the victim he stated at one time Spell had a key to his home and would keep an eye on his residence when he was out of town.  He stated he started to notice some of his belongings were missing and when he confronted Spell he admitted to stealing from him.  After further investigation detectives learned Spell had pawned several of the victim’s belongings, such as several guns and tools, to a local pawn shop.

Later the same day Spell was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple burglary; theft of a firearm; and theft from $5,000 but less than $25,000.  Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $50,000.

CPSO Detective Michael Conner is the lead investigator on this case.
