Lake Charles, LA –
On September 25, at approximately 10:00 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an accident involving a bicycle and a truck on Carlyss Drive in Sulphur.
The investigation revealed Austin Herring, 29, Zachary, was riding his bicycle southbound on Carlyss Drive near the shoulder. The driver of a truck, who was also traveling south, hit Herring’s bicycle from behind. Further investigation revealed that Herring’s bicycle had no lights.
Herring was airlifted to a hospital out of town. Over the weekend Herring died, likely from injuries sustained in the accident. The coroner will determine cause of death.
The investigation is continuing, impairment is not believed to be a factor.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
