CPSO MAKES TWO MORE ARRESTS IN STARKS HOMICIDE

 Lake Charles –

 

 Yesterday, September 16 the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Elizabeth R. Demarest, 19, 3251 Niblett’s Bluff Rd, Vinton, on charges of accessory after the fact of second degree murder; accessory after the fact of armed robbery; and accessory after the fact of obstruction. Demarest was booked in the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Judge David Ritchie set her bond at $125,000.

 

Also arrested was Phillip J. Lane, II, 23, 407 Vincent Dr., Vinton, on charges after the fact of second degree murder; and accessory after the fact of armed robbery. Lane was booked in to the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Judge Ritchie set his bond at $200,000.

 

These charges stem from the murder of Jody L. Barlow who was found dead as the result of multiple gunshot wounds on August 27 near the Calcasieu/Beauregard line off of Old River Road in Starks.

 

Zachary A. Bench, 21, Vinton, was arrested on August 31 by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with second degree murder; armed robbery; and obstruction of justice in the murder of Barlow.

 

Detectives learned Demarest, Lane and Bench were in possession of Barlow’s 2014 Dodge pickup truck after Barlow was murdered and had information regarding Barlow’s death. Demarest is the girlfriend of Bench and Lane is an acquaintance.

 

CPSO Detective Sgt. Brent Young and Detective Sgt. Lance Melendy are the lead investigators on this case.
