CPSO Arrests Woman For Child Desertion

Lake Charles –

On March 24, around 9:20 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call in reference to a 3 year old girl walking barefoot down the street near Sistrunk Road in Lake Charles.

Upon arrival, detectives spoke with the mother of the child, who stated she left the girl with a family member, whom they lived with, Dawna Perkins Taylor, 52, Lake Charles, while she went to a job interview.  When detectives spoke with Taylor, she first stated she told the child’s mother she would not be able to watch her and that she needed to find another babysitter.  After further questioning Taylor confirmed to detectives that she had agreed to watch the girl, but forgot the girl was at the home and left the residence.

Taylor was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, charged with child desertion and released on a $10,000 bond set by Judge David Ritchie.

CPSO Detective Sarah Stubbs is the lead investigator on this case.
