On March 12, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived at a mobile home in Westlake to investigate a complaint involving theft of utilities. After receiving permission from Coleman D. Mayo, 47, 2514 Evergreen Rd., # 75, Westlake, the homeowner, to search his home, deputies observed several tools with the initials of a business stamped on them. Deputies had a report that the business had been burglarized the night before in Westlake.
While being questioned by detectives, Mayo confirmed to being involved in the burglary and theft of the business where several tools valued over $3,000 were stolen and damage was done to the property. He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 3 counts of burglary; 3 counts of theft; and 2 counts of criminal damage to property. Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $115,000.
In regard to the theft of utilities, Mayo was charged with 2 counts of criminal damage to property; 1 count of theft; 1 count of theft of utilities; and 1 count of possession of stolen things. Judge Ritchie set his bond at $27,000 for a total bond on all counts of $142,000.
On March 15, after further investigation, detectives located Claiborne L. Bergeron, 49, 2514 Evergreen Rd., # 40, Westlake, at home and questioned him regarding the burglary at the Westlake business where he confirmed he was also involved in the burglary and theft of the business.
Further investigation revealed once on the property, Bergeron and Mayo caused damage to three machines. The wire from the machines was burnt and sold for copper for an undetermined amount of money at a local salvage yard.
Bergeron was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with burglary; theft; and criminal damage to property. Judge Kent Savoie set his bond at $8,000.
