The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted two (2) DWI checkpoints in the parish this past weekend. The checkpoints were conducted to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.
The first checkpoint was Saturday, March 13 in the 500 block of Martin Luther King Hwy. in Lake Charles. Two thousand one hundred eleven (2,111) vehicles were checked; thirty (30) field sobriety tests were administered; and the following seven (7) people were arrested for DWI:
Christopher Daniels, 57, 220 N. Cherry St., Lake Charles
Randy Thomas, 46, 7541 Tom Hebert Rd., Lake Charles
Darrell Burnworth, 31, 420 Cherry St., Sulphur
John S. Guidry, 58, 404 Pear St., Lake Charles
Marlon B. Lewis, 53, 714 N. Simmons St., Lake Charles
Lester Rubit, Jr., 57, 214 Libby St., Lake Charles
Patrick E. Franklin, 46, 110 S. Lyons St., Lake Charles
Four (4) citations were issued for open container; three (3) issued for no child restraints; two (2) for no drivers license; three (3) for driving under suspension; and one (1) for expired license plate.
The second checkpoint was conducted on Sunday, March 14, in the 1600 block of Holbrook Park Rd., between Moss Bluff and DeQuincy. One hundred one (101) vehicles were checked; seven (7) field sobriety tests were administered; and the following person was arrested for DWI:
Terry L. Dick, 60, 206 W. LeBlanc # 17, DeQuincy
One (1) citation was issued for driving under suspension; and one (1) for no child restraint.
Participating in the checkpoints were the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office; the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office; and Westlake Police Department.
These checkpoints were funded by Project KNOW, a grant awarded to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Office of Juvenile Justice Services. This grant is being used to target underage drinking. |
