The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a DWI checkpoint Saturday, March 6, in the 1600 block of Sampson St. in Westlake to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.

One thousand four hundred seventy-two (1,472) vehicles were checked; eight (8) field sobriety tests were administered; seven (7) citations were issued; and the following person was arrested for DWI:

Richard T. Richard, 44, 3200 Westwood Rd., # 107, Westlake

Two (2) citations were issued for no seatbelt; one (1) for no child restraint; two (2) for expired motor vehicle inspection; one (1) for illegal tint; and one (1) for illegal lighting.

This checkpoint was funded by Project KNOW, a grant awarded to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Office of Juvenile Justice Services to target underage drinking.  Westlake Police Department assisted CPSO with this checkpoint.
