CPSO Arrests Sulphur Woman for Theft from Employer and Extortion

On February 9, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a local business regarding a former employee stealing from the company.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the owners of the business who advised after researching discrepancies in the company’s bank account, it was discovered since March 2011, Elizabeth “Missy” Istre, 48, 2658 Con Dios Lane, Sulphur, who worked as a bookkeeper for the company, wrote herself over $250,000 worth of company checks which she deposited into her personal bank account and then would post the amounts of those checks under different vendors’ names on the company’s books.

During the investigation, it was also discovered Istre attempted to extort the owners of the company to not proceed with the charges against her.

On February 18, Istre was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft over $1,500; extortion and released on a $150,000 bond set by Judge Michael Canaday.

CPSO Detective Darrell Fontenot is the lead investigator on this case.

The investigation will continue with additional charges possible.
