On May 8, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a home on Raleigh Reed Road in Sulphur in reference to a burglary.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who advised when he returned home, he discovered his window had been forced open, damaging the window screen. He also advised several items including a television, jewelry, X-Box, Sony docking station, compound bow, and shotgun were stolen.
After further investigation detectives received a tip that Kevin McBrain, 33, 2200 Post Oak Rd., Sulphur; James Carey, 22, 3936 Wright Rd., Sulphur; and Katie Carey, 31, 2720 Mary Ann Dr., Sulphur, were responsible for the burglary. On June 12, detectives located McBrain for questioning and he confirmed that he, James Carey, and Katie Carey were responsible for the burglary. Detectives also received a tip on the whereabouts of both Carey’s. Detectives located them at a home in Sulphur and after further questioning James Carey also confirmed the allegations.
McBrain, and both Carey’s were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, theft of a firearm, theft over $1,500, and simple criminal damage to property. McBrain was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Judge Ron Ware set James Carey’s bond at $9,000. Katie Carey was released on a $9,000 bond and McBrain was released on a $37,000 bond, both set by Judge Ron Ware.
Detectives were able to recover some of the stolen items and they were returned to the victim.
