CPSO Arrests Woman for Forgery and Theft
02/16/12

On February 10, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives received a call from a victim regarding several checks stolen from his home.

After realizing the checks had been stolen, the victim contacted his bank and discovered $2,500 worth of checks had been written at several local stores between February 1 and February 10.

During the investigation, detectives were able to access video surveillance footage from two of the stores, which captured Pauline M. Cunningham, 34, 1384 Bridlewood Drive, Lake Charles, a family acquaintance of the victim, using the victim’s checks to make purchases.

An arrest warrant was issued for Cunningham and on February 14 she was arrested by CPSO Warrants detectives.  When questioned, Cunningham confirmed she entered the victim’s house without permission, stole approximately 3 to 4 checks from his checkbook and forged the victim’s signature to make several purchases.

Cunningham was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 4 counts of forgery; 3 counts of theft $500--$1,500; one count of theft under $500; and unauthorized entry of inhabited dwelling.

Judge Michael Canaday has set her bond at $150,000.

CPSO Detective Shannon Chesson is the lead investigator on this case.
